Five Points from 5-Point Film Festival
We recently had the opportunity to attend the 5-Point Film Festival in Carbondale, Colorado. Not only did we watch incredible films, but we also had the chance to see old friends, meet some new ones, and give a little presentation on post-production. This weekend brought to light just how much we enjoy interacting with talented filmmakers and creatives. The mountain setting didn’t hurt either… although we could’ve passed on the wintry mix. 😉 Here are some things we took away from our trip.
1. Collaboration, communication, and kindness are central to creativity. This was echoed in the films, the presentations, and our conversations. We want to thank Charlie Turnbull and the 5-Point team for having us out. Please take a moment to check out the 5-Point website, and start planning your trip for 2025.
2. The rare air of mountain film festivals. There is something about going to a mountain film festival that really gets us excited about making films. Is it the stunning landscapes with its soaring peaks and plummeting valleys? The unpredictable weather? The quaint western towns? Or maybe it's the simple lack of oxygen? Whatever the case, mountain film festivals are consistently wonderful and the 5-Point Film Festival delivered above our expectations. If you haven’t been, go! You won’t be disappointed.
3. We came to share. Lucky Day was asked to deliver a presentation at 5-point. The topic? Post-production. At the heart of our presentation is the insight that communication and planning will help filmmakers maximize their creative time in post while ALSO getting the most out of their budget. Here’s a link to our presentation deck, if you’re interested.
4. There is so much to learn. We suppose that’s the story of being alive, and for us, that story includes filmmaking. At 5-Point, the nights were filled with films, and the days were packed with presentations. One standout presentation was given by Bodie Johnson of Big Drop Music. Bodie spent a good hour demystifying music supervision and licensing - lots of "myst" in that corner of the world, so it was nice to have a competent guide. Want to know more? We got you, stay tuned for an episode of At The End Of The Day coming out shortly.
5. Come ready to play. It's true, you’ll likely spend most of your time at 5-Point sitting elbow to elbow watching films but the organizers don’t want you to feel sedentary. A friendly little 5k pits filmmakers, filmgoers, and local legends against each other in an all-out bid to take the top step of the podium. And for those with a film in the festival - don’t miss out on dodgeball. Our arms are still a little sore but our hearts remain full. ♥️
