Fresh Cut: Corky DeVault
Introducing Editor Corky DeVault. What do 100 gecs, a terrible director, and Andre the Giant have in common? Read Corky's interview to find out.
Favorite Color?
As a kid, it was purple. As an adult, orange, which is also Sinatra's favorite.
Favorite Movies? Or what movies inspire you?
Oh jeez, there's not enough hours in the day to answer this.
Favorite Bands?
At any given time, I'm either listening to new music, giving music in the recent past a second listen, or trying to do deep dives on really old stuff that I never gave a proper listen. Currently, that works out to 100 gecs' 10,000 gecs, Laura Marling's Once I Was an Eagle, and Nas' Illmatic. The downside of this method? Last week, I forced myself to listen to (Grammy Best Album winner) Toto IV. Wow. I will never get those 42 minutes back.
Favorite Song? What's your history with it?
"Happy Birthday" is what I've sung the most, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite.
Favorite Foods? Why?
Nothing tastes better than rice and beans on the couch after a long work trip.
Favorite places on Earth?
Any and all deserts.
Favorite places to eat?
A home-cooked dinner with 6-8 friends.
3 people to have dinner with? They can be dead or alive? Why?
Mark Twain, Andre the Giant, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg would make for a fun evening. At the very least, they'd be enamored with each other.
What are you most proud of?
Navigating several decades in this field without too many people figuring out I don't know what I'm doing.
Why do you edit?
Because I made a terrible director.
What is something you want to work on?
A documentary on Eddie Gaedel, the smallest man to ever appear in the MLB.
Anything you want to share? Promote? Highlight? What are we missing... what should we (the world) know?
Nah. Go back to your lovely day. I can't believe you made it this far.
