On Company Time: Art Inspo with Gabriela Tessitore

For editor Gabriela Tessitore, inspiration starts in the kitchen—where creativity, collaboration, and community all come together over a shared meal.

On Company Time: Art Inspo with Gabriela Tessitore

October 08, 2025

When you ask editor Gabby Tessitore about inspiration, she’ll tell you she is thinking about food. About the way a meal can combine geography, history, effort, creativity and community. “When done with love and as a celebrated presentation, food is one of the most profound forms of art,” she  notes.

It’s hard to argue, the ingredients in our food travel to us from near and far, recipes have been developed through experimentation and consideration; cooking is humanity's oldest and most practiced craft and yet it continues to challenge the mind and the senses with inspiration. Cooking is an art the result of which consistently activates all five senses, what other practice can claim that?

“When done with love and as a celebrated presentation, food is one of the most profound forms of art.”

Perhaps most importantly for Gabby, food has a way of bringing us together in a moment that creates a shared memory for all of us at the table. It’s this coming together that might most inspire Tessitore, as she endeavors to center collaboration at the heart of her editorial practice. It’s the way the efforts of so many are synthesized into one final piece - from creative to production through post many hands contribute to making a film. In this way food, the act of creating and sharing food, is a key reference point for Gabby, whose goal is to host a backyard pop-up that sources all the ingredients from her garden.

While she’s sowing those seeds and furrowing her brow over what is and what is not growing. Tessitore wants people to know that she’s most recently inspired by the cook book “Big Vegan Flavor,” from Chef Nisha Vora and in particular their “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Chicken” recipe.
